What is PTE Core?
PTE Core (Pearson Test of English Core) is a fully computer-based English language proficiency test developed by Pearson and approved by IRCC for Canadian immigration. It is accepted for key programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, permanent residency, and work permits.
The PTE Core exam evaluates Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing skills using advanced AI-based scoring, ensuring accurate and unbiased results. Designed mainly for vocational and non-academic purposes, it is similar to PTE Academic but tailored specifically for Canada migration.
The test lasts around 2–3 hours, is conducted in secure, uncrowded test centres, and offers results within 24 hours. What is PTE?

What categories of PTE Test?
PTE consists of two different categories, which is PTE Academic and PTE General. Types of PTE test: Computes-based and Paper Based
- PTE exam can be taken in two ways: one is Online which is on a computer, and the other is an offline paper-based test. Now you will be wondering what the difference between these two tests is?
- The main and the noticeable difference is in computer-based PTE tests, you get to write through a keyboard, and in offline tests, you get a pencil.
- The order of the test is different. In Australia and New Zealand, the paper-based PTE starts with Writing, then Reading, and Listening. Sometimes you do your Speaking straight after this. But other test centres may offer your Speaking test on a different day. The Computer-delivered PTE starts with Listening, followed by Reading, Writing. The Speaking test takes place on the same day, either before or after your computer test.
- The listening test is a shooter in an online PTE exam compared to the offline exam. As in the offline exam, you get extra 10 minutes in the listening test to transfer your answer to the main sheet.
- You get headphones in the PTE online exam for the listening test and your computer.
