Marking Criteria for IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

As the interest in migration has increased over the years, the IELTS examination has emerged as the main avenue to realize the goal of settling in first-world countries. Before sitting for the exam, it is imperative to understand the marking criteria properly to achieve the desired score.

IELTS is an examination comprising four different modules in which individuals can score bands ranging between 1 and 9, which is a reflection of their English language skills. For IELTS Academic and General Training, the difference primarily lies in Writing Task 1 and Reading Test. Here is the list of all the areas based on which IELTS marks the responses, and test takers need to have a detailed understanding to achieve a higher band score.

For instance, 9 bands are what a candidate will be awarded for a raw score of 39 – 40. It is noteworthy that in most countries like Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, universities require students to have a band score of 6 or 6.5 in each module. (Please check with your university before applying).

It all may sound somewhat complex, but we assure you that it will be a child’s play for you once you comprehend the basics and mark your responses accordingly.
