IELTS coaching — common questions

Band 8.0 or above in every skill — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking simultaneously. This is the Superior English category. Band 7 in each = Proficient (10 pts). Band 6 minimum to be eligible. The 8.0 threshold applies to each skill individually.
Listening and Reading are raw-band conversions (e.g. 35/40 raw = Band 8). Writing and Speaking are marked by certified IELTS examiners against four criteria each. Each criterion is given a band, then averaged. Our mentors mark mocks the same way examiners do.
Students from Band 6.5–7 reach Band 7+ in 4–6 weeks with our methodology. Students at Band 6 need 6–8 weeks. Below Band 6, expect 8–12 weeks. Our free diagnostic mock gives a personalised estimate on day one.
IELTS Academic is for university admission, AHPRA and professional registration. IELTS General Training is for migration and work visas. Listening and Speaking are identical across both. Reading and Writing differ — General has letter writing and workplace reading; Academic has data-description writing (Task 1) and academic-journal reading. Both Academic and GT can be sat on paper or Online (Computer-Delivered).
IELTS Online (CD) and paper-based IELTS use identical content, scoring and band scale. Differences: CD results arrive in 3–5 days vs 13 days for paper; the CD Speaking interview is still face-to-face with a human examiner; typing replaces handwriting for Writing and Reading. We recommend CD if you type faster than you write, want results sooner, or prefer a quieter test-day environment. Paper is still better if you struggle with on-screen reading or want to underline and annotate passages.
